As quite a few know Ive dabbled in a few other scenes while ive been about but I havent too commercial or a big name but that will probs change soon lol.
So in my small card game career ive dabbled in pokemon and yugioh and as of recent poker.
It started mainly around 2000 or so with the advent of card games going global pokemon cards were pretty much the fad and the rage everyone was after as such so was I pretty much collecting a trading like many kids around that time. Eventually you learn theres a game behind the shiny cards and thats when I learnt to play yugioh so a lot of my school time was sneaking cards to school and playing casually with my friends.
I had a definite innate aptitude for stratigraphy and was able to use it to my advantage as the yugioh game was developing and working my way up the school ladder as my skill level rose. I knew what I was doing for a casual level which is pretty decent but for a tournament setting it just wouldnt cut it and I learnt the hard way me and a group of friends around 02-03 went to a local yugioh tournament held by our local bookstore. Boy did I get pitched mercilessly I essentially took my two favourite structure decks and some random cards chucked them together and went to war, the decks couldve been decent with some work I suppose but for what it was and the time back then it was really junky. I got destroyed by my friend I went with first round he had a spellcaster theme deck which was pretty strong 10 years ago yeah he whooped me and I went on to get whooped by a little kid that killed me inside sitting opposite a 7 year old who had a decent idea of the rules just lay me to waste after that I quit with almighty salt inside and decided the game wasnt for me but I kept tabs on the game with all the news that was coming out once in a while.
So quite a few years later I had got involved in the mmorpg world through none other than Mr.Gwam(Chuck/Levellawrence) and couldn't keep up with the costs of wow etc (lol recurring theme) so I started looking for something to quell my thirst for ggs and it lead me to find the smogon community for pokemon and yugioh.
With pokemon I learnt my way around the online game with shoddy and reading, I attempted to play irl again with help from some of the best in the country but it lead me to decide which would I play more and enjoy considering im spending a lot of money on it?
So I chose yugioh- It also lead yugioh online game it was perfect get my ggs online and potential to have any card on demand if I can find it while sitting on my ass, so I got involved there playing and I was introduced to this world of metagaming that changed my understanding of games completely essentially counter picking for you fg dudes from there I learnt my way around the game quite quickly and with help from people who had an understanding of what was going on pretty much. (another recurring theme helping out what I aim to do in some way or form) from there I started to beast as my experience went up and started playing irl as I decided I was too good. So I went into school and started playing with friends and we put in shit loads of hours coupled with me reading, enjoying myself and putting extra hours in within a short time I took it to the next level online my stats under my Ultimate Gunslinger status, Psynapse alias was sitting around 400 or so wins and next to no losses within a pretty short time and I was sitting pretty high on uk rankings top 10 at one point I believe before I left.
So started attending locals performing well and went on to regionals when nationals season came through I performed pretty well for a technical newcomer essentially getting screwed on the bubble but constantly learning as I went along in such a messed up expensive format. As once again I wasnt balling I had to settle for a mid tier deck flamvell at the time and earned my place at 2010 nationals after winning the regional in joint first place (they didnt play it out :[) due to time constraints) I went on to nationals and placed 39rd(lost on the bubble essentially difference between top 16 grandfinals lol) with my Herald of perfection deck I was pretty happy with my performance and expect to be winning when I return ready to deal with the games costs. Inbetween I played poker but there isnt much history other than time ive been putting in.
So that gets my gaming/competitive life in a nutshell its quite long but it should clear up anyone wondering what ive been and putting myself out there!
